Back in 1924, Mr. T.O. McCoye opened up his real estate office, the T.O. McCoye Company at 230 Culver Blvd in Palisades Del Rey which is now known as Playa Del Rey, California. In 1959 McCoye relocated his real estate office to the new shopping center he built across the street at 201-225 Culver Blvd.
In the early 1960’s Luc and Shirley Matilla left George Arnold Realty and joined the sales forces at T.O. McCoye as sales agents. They worked under managing brokers Herbie Hall, Art Fowler, and Jack Shields. Their highly successful sales careers spanned over 20 years, and both retired in 1980 after purchasing the shopping center from Mr. McCoye. At that time they closed down the real estate office and renamed the shopping center – Matilla Village Center..
Nine years later, in June of 1989, their two sons, Steven Matilla and Daniel Matilla, Sr. established a new real estate business, as well as a property management service, in the shopping center naming the new businesses “Matilla Realty, Inc.” and “Matilla Group Property Management LLC”. In 1993 Daniel, Sr. fell ill and passed away.
Steven Matilla carried on the business as managing broker up to 2003 at which time Matilla Realty joined the ERA franchise system, and became ERA Matilla Realty. During this time with ERA, Steve’s nephew, Daniel Matilla, Jr. joined the agency. ERA Matilla Realty prospered for 21 years as a franchisee of ERA but left the franchise system in January 2024 and became, again, Matilla Realty, Inc.
